GOING BUSH WITH CHINCHILLA NATS
edited by Roy & Val Hando; published by Chinchilla Field Naturalists Club.
This is the second edition of an excellent book published originally by Chinchilla Field Naturalists Club in 1988. This new edition, published in 1997, has been expanded to 248 pages, with much additional information on birds, mammals, frogs, fish, reptiles, bees, spiders, insects, fossils, landforms and many, many pages on native plants of the Chinchilla and Murilla Shires.

There is such a wealth of natural history wrapped in this one book that it is not possible to mention it all here. However, for the native plant enthusiast there are 118 pages devoted to this subject - trees and shrubs, Eucalypts and Angophoras, wildflowers, ferns, grasses, sedges and rushes. There are keys to help with identification of wildflowers of the western Darling Downs, Barakula-Gurulmundi and south-west Burnett and there is a separate listing of the wildflowers of Gurulmundi, north of Miles. One interesting section is the trees and shrubs of Chinchilla roadsides, which are listed according to the roads along which they grow. Black and white photographs and excellent line drawings have been used throughout the book to illustrate the text, plus the addition of colour photographs and a coloured cover.

For anyone contemplating visiting this area of Queensland, this book is a must.
