WILDFLOWERS OF SOUTH-EAST INLAND QUEENSLAND
by Val Hando

This delightful little book covers plants from an area of south-east inland Queensland from the Great Dividing Range west to Mitchell, south to St George and the Moonie Highway and north to Rolleston and Monto. This part of Queensland, which includes many areas of sandstone country, has a wealth of wildflowers and this book has been designed to help anyone visiting the area to identify them.
The area covered includes Chinchilla, Miles and Kogan, Barakula Forestry, Gurulmundi, Isla Gorge National Park, Carnarvon National Park and the Blackdown Tableland National Park. In the introduction there is a brief description of all these habitats, and throughout the book a code indicates in which of these areas each plant can be found.
The book is organised for the amateur plant lover, with simple guides at the beginning to direct the user to the right section. In all, 260 plant species are described with 182 illustrated with line drawings. The attention to detail in these drawings makes identification of the plants an easy task for the amateur not familiar with botanical descriptions. The descriptions given for the plants use a minimum of scientific terminology, and a glossary of botanical terms and some botanical illustrations are provided to cover the terms which are used.
For anyone interested in the plants of this area of Queensland this small, attractively-presented book would be a very useful and easily-carried addition to the reference library.
